January 25, 2010

On January 15, 2010, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer released her proposal for a balanced state budget. Her proposal is a combination of revenue enhancements and spending cuts. Included in the plan are a one-cent increase in the sales tax and a broadening of the sales tax base. Spending cuts include:

• Reducing AHCCCS roles by 25% (Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System Administration - Arizona's Medicaid Agency);
• Eliminating Kidscare (Arizona's Children's Health Insurance Program);
• Closing the Arizona Department of Juvenille Corrections;
• Reducing services for seriously mentally ill adults.
