This Week - Data Releases for the Week Ending November 18, 2011

The Census Bureau released several products relating to geographic mobility on the 15th. Data from the Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement showed that 11.6% of the population changed residences between 2010 and 2011, which is the lowest rate recorded since they started tracking mobility in 1948.

The Producer Price Index, released November 15th, showed a decline of 0.3 percent in finished goods between September and October. The index was lower due to a drop in energy prices, which saw a 1.4 percent decrease over the month.  Finished goods less food and energy were flat.  The year over year change for September was 5.9 percent, which was the lowest 12-month change since March.

The Consumer Price Index was released November 16th.  Seasonally adjusted prices were down 0.1 percent over the month.  Prices were up 3.5 percent over the year before seasonal adjustment.

Initial unemployment claims for the US dropped this week to a seasonally adjusted 388,000 according to Thursday’s release.  The four-week average decreased to 396,750 which is the lowest it has been in seven months.

The Arizona Office of Employment and Population Statistics released the October employment report on November 17th. The unemployment rate in Arizona for October was 9.0 percent, the same as the national rate. Arizona added 15,500 jobs this month with ten of the eleven major sectors posting gains.  The only sector showing a loss in jobs was Other Services.

The Conference Board reported on the 18th that its index of leading indicators rose 0.9 percent in October.  This follows a 0.1 percent increase in September and a 0.3 percent increase in August, pointing to continued growth.
